Commerical plane travel began in Canada in the 1930s. Air Canada's (then known as Trans-Canada Air Lines) first passenger flight took place in 1937.

The Canada Border Services Agency receives, by law, passenger lists from all planes with a Canadian destination.  They also keep track of airline passengers leaving the country.
