01-01-1948 Patrick Alexander Curran, beloved husband of Elizabeth Hurteau, 
formerly of Huntingdon Québec, died at his home, 843 Grand Avenue, Schenectady 
NY. He was born June, 18th, 1864, in Huntingdon Québec, he left in 1924 to 
reside at Saranac Lake New York, prior to going to Schenectady 15 years ago. He 
is a son of the late Martin and Hannah O'Neill Curran. Surviving are his wife, 
Elizabeth Hurteau, one daughter, Mrs. Edmund Kierney, two granddaughters, of 
Schenectady NY, one brother, Martin of Huntingdon, also several nieces and 
nephews. It's Interment at Schenectady NY.
01-03-1948 Emma Derocher, beloved wife of Raphael Hart, died at Cazaville 
Québec, age 78 years. She was daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Derocher of 
Dundee Québec. She was born in Dundee Québec on November the first, 1869, had 
she waited till February 13, next, she and her husband would have been 60 years 
married. She leaves to mourn, her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Jerry Martin of 
Dickinson Center NY, Mrs. Henry Losey of Massena NY, four brothers, Mr. Wallace 
Derocher of St. Agnes, William, of Massena NY, Albert of Watertown, and Edward 
of Montreal. Three daughters, Mrs. Fred Noro of Dundee, Mrs. Leo Pickering of 
Herkimer NY, Mrs. Dennis Sweeney of Watertown, two sons, Alfred of Fort 
Covington, and Armand of Massena. Thirty grandchildren and thirtytwo 
great-grandchildren. Funeral services in Dundee Québec, burial was in the St. 
Agnes Cemetery.

01-02-1948 Agnes McLean, beloved wife of the late John Harvey Stewart, died at 
the home of her niece, Mrs. William E. Lewis, 9 Hazelwood Avenue, in her 91st 
year. She was born in Huntingdon district, 90 years ago last August. She was the 
oldest living member of Fairmount-St Giles United Church. Left to mourn are a 
number of nieces and nephews. Funeral took place on Monday from William Wray 
Chapel, 2075 University Street, Montreal Québec Interment at Huntingdon 
Protestant Cemetery, Huntingdon Québec.
12-26-1947 Helen E. Reardon, beloved wife of Herman N. Wagner, died at Brushton 
New York, she leaves to mourn, her husband, a son, Jason, a student of St. 
Michael's University, two brothers, Edgar and Clarence, and a sister, Agnes of 
Huntingdon. Funeral services was held at St. Mary's Church in Brushton NY, 
service conducted by the Rev. J. O'Brien. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery,

North Neighborhood, (Hanover), formerly of Rockburn Québec, died at Hanover NH, 
in his 74th year. He was born in Rockburn Québec, November 22nd, 1874, and moved 
with his parents to this neighborhood 55 years ago. After his father's death in 
1901, Mr. Arthur carried on the home farm and raised thoroughbred Holsteins 
Friesian Cattle. He is survived by his sister, Ethel Arthur Tuxbury, three 
nephews, Vernon W. Tuxbury, Chapelin in the United States Navy, stationed in 
Oakland CA, Robert L. Tuxbury of Chicago IL, and F. Camas Tuxbury of Durham NH, 
three grand nephews and one grandniece besides cousins. Funeral services were 
held at the first Baptist Church in Etna, service conducted by the Rev. F. S. 
Sparks. Interred in the Hanover Center Cemetery in the family lot.
01-12-1948 Reginald Cecil Cooper, husband of Elsie Mabel Stark, died at 
Huntingdon Québec, in his 37th year.
01-14-1948 Anna Solen, beloved wife of the late Alphonse Fortin, died at 
Montreal Québec, in her 90th year. The remains resting at the Kelly Funeral 
Parlor in Huntingdon Québec. Her husband predeceased her nine years ago. She 
leaves to mourn, two-step daughters, Mrs. Leahy of Seattle WA, and Mrs. A 
Desjardins of Glenelm Québec, also nephews and nieces. Service will be held at 
St Bridgets Church in Trout River New York, January 16th..
01-04-1948 Mary Ann Crawford, beloved wife of the late John Graham, died at her 
late residents in Glenelm Québec, in her 81st year. She was born in Elgin 
Township Québec, she married John Graham, also of Elgin Township, on September 
23rd, 1890. He predeceased her 17 years ago as did a daughter, Shana, Mrs. W.B. 
Levers, four years ago. She leaves to mourn, one son, William, and two 
daughters, Catherine and Bessie, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter 
and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held in the Athelstan 
Presbyterian Church, service conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Robert G. 
MacMillan.
01-14-1948 James A. Leslie of St Anicet, died at the Huntingdon County Hospital, 
in his 63rd year. Funeral from the Zion United Church in Dundee Québec on 
January 16th. He was born in St Anicet Québec, where he spent his lifetime at 
the old homestead. The deceased is survived by his two sisters, Betty, Mrs. 
Davis of Athens ON, and Margaret at home, also two brothers, Gregor of Dundee 
and John at home. Funeral services were held from the Dundee Zion United Church 
on Friday afternoon, service conducted by the Rev. Mr. Hager.

Vendome Avenue, Montreal Québec, in her 72nd year.
12-27-1947 Carrie Allard, wife of the late Louis Laberge, died at Huntingdon 
Québec, age 80 years. Her husband predeceased her 26 years ago on December 13th, 
and one son, Lawrence, died 16 years ago. Left to mourn, one daughter, Albina, 
at home, and five sons, Alfred of St. Lambert Québec, Arthur of Worcester 
Massachusetts, Alex and Euclid of Huntingdon, and Henry of Upton Massachusetts, 
one sister, Miss Agnes Allard of Montreal, six grandchildren and one 
great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Church in 
Huntingdon Québec, Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hormisdas Hart of Dundee Québec, died at Ray Brook, New 
York, age 35 years. She was born at St. Agnes de Dundee Québec, and was united 
in marriage to Mr. Lester Eldridge of Brasher Falls, New York, on the 19th of 
June, 1935. To this union, one son, Garry was born. Funeral services were held 
from St. Patrick's Church at Brasher falls New York.

was married to Margaret J. Bush on December 7th, 1904, who survived him, also by 
two sisters, Mrs. H. C.Suter of Daytona Beach FL, and Miss Bertha R. Ewing, 
presently in New York City. Funeral from the Powerscourt United Church on 
Friday, January 30th. Service conducted by his pastor, the Rev. W. W. Conrad. 
Interment followed in the Powerscourt Cemetery.

son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander, Plamondon, formerly of Huntingdon 
Quebec, died suddenly at Sherbrooke Quebec, age 64 years.
01-14-1948 Mrs. J. W. Dugdale, (Janet Logan), died suddenly, age, in her 91st 
year. A native and former resident of Howick Québec, she is survived by four 
children from her first marriage to Harry Newman, who died in 1888. They are 
Mrs. J. C. Morell, three sons, Harry G., William A., and Joseph B., all of 
Montreal. Her second husband, Mr.Dugdale, died in 1938. Burial was in Mount 
Royal Cemetery.
01-10-1948 Malvina Saumier, ( nee Myre), wife of the late Ovila Saumier, died in 
Ormstown Québec. She was born at Dewittville Québec, June 18th, 1885, she was in 
her 63rd year. She was married to Mr. Saumier in 1919, in 1924 they bought the 
Smallman Place near the Roman Catholic Church and lived there until the time of 
her husband's death in 1937. She then move to Huntingdon, and lived with her 
son, Alridge, until the time of her death. She leaves to mourn, her only son 
Alridge, of Huntingdon, three sisters, Verina of Huntingdon, Philanese, Mrs. J. 
B. Cole of Ste Agnes de Dundee, Mary, Mrs. H. L. Hartley of St. Lambert Québec, 
two brothers, John of Ste Agnes de Dundee, Peter of Nitro Québec, her 
brothers-in-law, Mr. Fred Saumier of Huntingdon, Mr. John Saumier of St. Agnes 
Québec, Mr.Osias Saumier of Ste Agnes de Dundee, Mr. William Saumier of Massena 
New York, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Rose Finn of Huntingdon, Sylvia, Mrs. Joseph

service conducted by the Rev. Father Deguire. Interment was in St. Agnes Roman 
Catholic Cemetery.

02-03-1948 Edgar L. Helm, beloved husband of Nellie Taunton, died at the 
Huntingdon County Hospital, in his 44th year. He was born at Athelstan Québec, 
youngest son of the late Thomas Helm and his wife, Mattie Lowery. In 1939, he 
married Ellen Taunton, who is left to mourn his loss, together with five 
children, two sons, James and Robert, three daughters, Shirley, Alberta, and 
Ilene, also three sisters, Mrs. Robert Ovens of Ormstown, Mrs. Newton Wright of 
Cardinal Ontario, and Mrs. David Booth of Huntingdon. His brother, Gordon, 
predeceased him in March of 1945. Funeral services from the Huntingdon United 
Church on February 6th. Service was conducted by the Rev. W. W. Conrad.
02-03-1948 Philomene Deamour, beloved wife of the late D.A.Larche, died at 
Athelstan Québec, in her 85th year. She was married 37 years ago. She is 
survived by two brothers, several nieces and nephews and other relatives. 
Funeral service were held Friday morning in the Church at St Antoine Abbe 
Québec, Interment at St Antoine Abbe Québec.

3rd, 1921, daughter of Eva Elizabeth Murray and William Arthur White. She leaves 
two brothers, David, who is at the Nichols Chemical Company, and Lloyd, of 
Mercks & Co., as well as her many aunts and uncles. Funeral service was

02-10-1948 Jeanie Reid, beloved wife of Albert Kerr, died at the home of her 
son, Russell, in Howick Québec, after a long illness of almost a year. Her 
husband at the time of her death was confined to bed, in her 78th year. Albert 
Kerr and Jeanie Reid, were neighbors and school mate's and were married in June, 
1896, and lived on a farm in Fertile Creek, acquired by his father for him 
several years before. Besides their three sons and their wives, he leave to 
mourn, one brother, and one sister, Arthur Kerr and William Reid of Howick, Mrs. 
John Howe of Windsor Ontario, and Mrs. William Anderson of Athelstan. Also 11 
grandchildren and one great-grandson. To grandchildren predeceased him, Myrtle 
by six years, and Albert by two years. Funeral from the residence of Russell 
Kerr. Interment in the Georgetown Cemetery.

the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe Ontario, in his 68th year. He was born at 
Hemmingford Québec, son of the late Samuel McClatchey and Elizabeth Mason, he 
married the former Nena Maud foster at Collinsville Québec in 1905. Besides his 
wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lois Roberta, Mrs. W. U. Lumley of Delhi, 
three sons, John Lewis of London Ontario, Samuel Foster and Gordon Kenneth, both 
of Delhi, one brother, David McClatchey of Plattsburgh New York, and a sister, 
Mrs. Margaret Hope of Smith Falls, Ontario. Funeral services held from the 
Funeral Home, service conducted by the Rev. Duncan E. Foster, of Delhi United 
Church. Interment was in Delhi Cemetery.

02-21-1948 Mrs. Sarah Smallman, wife of the late Joseph Smallman, died at her 
home in Dundee Center Québec, in her 95th year. Mrs. Smallman was born on May 
30th, 1853 in Dundee Québec. She was Sarah Ann Moody, youngest daughter of the 
late Rev. Duncan Moody and his wife, Sara Farlinger. At the age of 25 years she 
married Mr. Joseph Smallman of Dundee. Left to Mourn are four children, three 
daughters, Ann, Mrs. Charles Moore of Fort Covington New York, Sara, Mrs. Eugene 
Degowin of Fort Covington New York, Margaret, Mrs. Martin McNair of Malone New 
York, and one son, Charles of Dundee. Several grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren survive. A daughter, Martha, Mrs. George MacDonald 
predeceased her. Funeral services were held from the late residents, service 
conducted by the Rev. R. G. MacMillan.

Québec, died at Nassau, Bahamas. She was formerly Mabel McLaren. She was married

J. H. Poole at the Presbyterian Kirk, and at the Western Cemetery by the 
Anglican Archbishop of Nassau.

home of her daughter, Mrs. Augustus Lavarnway, West Plattsburgh New York. She 
was 87 years old. She was a daughter of the late Michael and Bridget Druery 
O'Connell, and was born in Chateauguay New York,. She moved to Rouses Point with 
her parents as a child. She married the late Samuel Foy in 1883. Mr. Foy died in 
1931, she is survived by five daughters and three sons, Mary, Mrs. George Mero 
of Rouses Point, Lillian, Mrs. Augustus Lavarnway of West Pittsburgh, Margaret, 
Mrs. Joseph Etneze of Island Point VT, Nora, Mrs. Charles Marple of Ladner, 
B.C., Helene, Mrs. Raymond Bourdon of Covey Hill Québec, and Henri, Fred, and 
Samuel Foy of Rouses Point. Funeral service was held at St. Patrick's Church in 
Rouses Point, service conducted by the Rev. Emile Lalonde. The body was placed 
in the vault in the local Cemetery to await burial in the spring.

Ormstown Québec, and to them, four children were born, Robert of Mount Stewart, 
Prince Edward Island, Harry of Toronto, Ross and Olive of Ormstown, Mr. Bryson 
predeceased his wife thirty years ago. Funeral service was held from the 
residents of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bryson, service conducted by the Rev. J. 
C. McBride. Burial at the Union Cemetery in Ormstown Québec.

Mr. and Mrs. Felix Finn of Ormstown Québec, died at Corpus Christi TX, age 78 
years.
04-08-1948 James Henderson, beloved husband of the late Hannah Simpson, died at 
the home of his daughter, Mrs. George E. Tate, in Ormstown Québec, in his 97th 
year. Their passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George E. Tate, an old 
and respected citizen of Ormstown, in a person of Mr. James Henderson. He was 
born on the Gore, Hinchinbrooke Quebec, May 15th, 1851, he was the son of the 
late Samuel Henderson and his wife, the late Mary Howe. On September 9th, 1876, 
he was married to the late Hannah Simpson. He farmed for a number of years on 
the Gore, later moving to Ormstown, where he lived until the time of his wife's 
death, seven years ago, when he moved to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. 
George Tate. He leaves to mourn, two daughters, Rosa Bell, Mrs. James Elder, and 
Charlotte Lavina, Mrs. George Tate. He was of a mild disposition, a kind of 
loving father and will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, who were 
particularly fond of him. Funeral service was held in St. James Anglican Church, 
service conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. T. Payne. The pallbearers were six of 
his nephews.

Township Québec, in 1872, she was daughter of the late John Wattie, a native of 
Aberdeen, Scotland and his wife, the late Philomene Dorais of Elgin Township. 
She leaves to mourn, her husband, Fred M. Pease, one daughter, Mary, two sons, 
Chester, Cecil, and his wife and three grandchildren, Anthony, Patricia and 
Susan, one brother, Mr. John Wattie of Elgin Township, besides many nieces and 
nephews. Funeral was held at St. Bridget's Church in Trout River,Que, service 
conducted by the Rev. William Capron, assisted by the Rev. A Pigeon. Interred in 
the family plot in Huntingdon Québec.

1st, 1857, in Huntingdon Québec, one of six children born to the late Mr. and 
Mrs. James Marshall, Scottish immigrants who came to Canada at an early age. The

grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. They were parents of eight children, 
six boys, Charles, John, Arthur, Ingleton, and Frank, all of Castor, Wilfred who

in his 94th year. Only a few weeks ago he was able to pen a letter to his 
cousin, Mrs. Thomas Waddell, of Covey Hill Quebec, after her sister's death. 
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. E. Faw of Toronto Ontario, and Mrs. Joseph 
Robinson of Hamilton Ontario, one son, F. W. Orr of Toronto Ontario, six 
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was born at Covey Hill Quebec, only 
son of the late William Orr and his wife, Maria Barrett. He had one sister, Mrs. 
Charles MacDiarmid, who died over 35 years ago. He married Miss Abra Jackson of 
Covey Hill, who died in Hamilton. His second wife, Miss Fanny Applegath, 
predeceased him sixteen years ago. Funeral services were held in the Livingston 
United Church, of which he had been a steward for over 25 years. Interment took 
place in the Hamilton Cemetery.

illness of six months. She was born at Glenville Québec, on June 8th, 1870, she 
was the daughter of the late John Walker of County Sleigo, Ireland, and Agnes 
Barrie of Glenville Québec. She was the last member of the family of six, her 
brother, Dr. Robert Walker of Chicago IL, having died last year. She was united 
in marriage on September 7th, 1893, to Henry A. White, who predeceased her in 
October, 1946. Of this union were born four children, Agnes, who died in 
infancy, Eva, Violet, Mrs. Reid, and William, there are also four grandchildren.

Kilbane Québec, age 83 years. Service at St Bridgets Church, in Trout River. May 
20th. He was born in Huntingdon Québec, in October, 1865, son of Oliver Robidoux 
and Meline Monique. He married Catherine McConville, daughter of the late Mr. 
and Mrs. Charles McConville. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. Robidoux left for 
Montana to seek work in the mines there. Surviving him, three sons, and two 
daughters. Alwyn of Glenelm, John at home, Terence at White Station, Annie, Mrs. 
Alfred Latulipe of Valleyfield, Mabel, Mrs. Thomas Murphy of Hamilton Ontario, 
one son, Clarence died of scarlet fever, and two sons, Freddie and Oliver and 
one daughter, Florence, were victims of the fire that demolished Mr. Robidoux 
former home on the River Road, two miles east of Huntingdon. Mrs. Robidoux 
predeceased him six years ago. He also leaves 21 grandchildren. Funeral was held 
at St Bridgets Church in Trout River, service conducted by the Rev. Father 
Capron. Burial at Huntingdon Québec.

that time has been a residence of the town of Huntingdon. She leaves to mourn,

and Walter J. Thomson, both of New York City. Funeral service was held Wednesday 
afternoon, June 2nd, from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at in Huntingdon 
Québec, Interment was in the Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery.

Cogland and his wife, Mary Gamble. In 1899, he was married to Edith M. Holiday, 
and made their home in Huntingdon. He was a cheese and buttermaker by trade. He

his 84th year. He was married twice, his first wife, Miss Laura Allan, passed 
away a number of years ago. Later, in 1904, he married Mrs. Isabel McCance, who 
passed away on the 24th of March. He leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. Thomas 
Orr, of Claremont NH, a niece, Mrs.Kearns Gilbert, a nephew, Mr. Harold Orr, of 
Claremont NH, also a nephew, Mr. Elliott Gordon, of Westfield MA. His only 
brother, William Gordon, passed away very suddenly in Winchendon MA, on August 
24th of last year. Funeral service was held on Saturday afternoon in Knox

took place in Knox Cemetery beside his wife who had passed away less than three

06-30-1948 Joseph Alexander Vance, eldest son of the late John Vance, and his 
wife, Christina Elder, formerly of Huntingdon Québec, died in the Shelton 
Hospital, in Seattle WA, in his 76th year. He was a pioneer and founder of the 
Vance Bloomberg Company, he was a native of Huntingdon Québec, and moved to 
Parkland, near Tacoma, in 1890. In 1900. At Elma, Mr. Vance was married to 
Margaret Mckey, who survives him. They raised four children, Helen, Lloyd, Earl 
and George, all have died except George Vance of Seattle WA, eight grandchildren 
also survive.

Nancy Whiteside, her maiden name being Mary Adaline Kelly. She is survived by 
her husband, one son, and three daughters, George Goodfellow, and Mrs. Donald 
Cummings of Lancaster ON, Mrs. Lunan, of Montreal, and Mrs. Clifford Martell of 
Cornwall ON. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 11, at St.

Québec, Interred at Franklin Center Québec. Mr. Young was born at Franklin, and 
was the son of the late Leonard Young and his wife, Mary Finlayson, he spent his 
entire life in Franklin until eight years ago, when he came to Ormstown. He is 
survived by one brother, Mr. D. A Young, of Montreal, and two sisters, Mrs. 
William Kirkland of Ormstown, and Mrs. Albert Rowe, of Blenheim ON, besides 
several relatives of this part. Funeral services were held at McGerrigle's 
Undertaking Parlor, service conducted by the Rev. W. T. Payne, assisted by the 
Rev. T. F. Duncan. The remains were laid to rest in the family plot at Franklin 
Québec.

07-25-1948 Sarah Jane Goodfellow, wife of the late William Thomas Ferns, died at 
the Huntingdon County Hospital, in her 89th year. The deceased was born in 
Huntingdon Québec, on April 26, 1860, and was married to the late Mr. Ferns. She 
lived at Dewittville Québec and vicinity with her husband until his death in 
1920, when she came to live at Huntingdon. Ten children were born, seven who are 
still living, and three of who predeceased her. Mrs. Edith MacDonald of Red 
Lodge, Montana, Mrs. Anna Nesbitt, Mrs. Nellie Moir, Mrs. Myrtle Woodard, Mrs. 
Hazel Bradley of Cleveland OH, Mr. George Ferns of Rome OH, Mr. John Ferns of 
Huntingdon, the deceased were, Mrs. Mary Gossler, Mrs. Eva Stark and Mr. Wilfred 
Ferns, there are 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers 
and sisters are, Mrs. Maude Traverse of Herdman Québec, Mrs. Florence McDowell 
of Schenectady New York, Mr. Joseph Goodfellow of Montreal, Mr. James Goodfellow 
of Williamstown ON, and Mr. John Goodfellow of Huntingdon Québec. Funeral 
services were held at the Huntingdon United Church, and Interment was in the 
Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gibson of Rockburn Québec. Died at Daytona Beach 
FL, She was born at Rockburn Québec, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gibson. 
She was married on December 31st, 1927, spending most of her married life in 
Florida. The sympathy of the community goes to Mr. Goldie and their two 
daughters, Joan and Fay, and her parents. Funeral services and burial took place 
at Daytona Beach, Florida

07-26-1948 James Peters, beloved husband of Emily Elliott, died suddenly at 
Huntingdon Québec, in his 57th year. He was a native of Dundee Scotland. After 
retireing from the Imperial Tobacco Company in 1939, he settled in Huntingdon, 
opening the Central Cigar Store. He was married in this country to Emily 
Elliott, a native of England. Funeral services were held at St. Andrew's Church, 
on Wednesday afternoon, July 28th, service conducted by Rev. R. D. McLean. 
Burial was in the Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery.
07-13-1948 Vernon W. Johnson, died at Powerscourt Québec, in his 85th year. Mr. 
Johnson was born at Powerscourt Québec and had lived his entire life in this 
community, Other than when he lived in Vermont as a young man for a short while. 
He was a carpenter by trade, turning to farming in 1916, when he purchased the 
George Outterson farm on the Brook Road. Surviving and are his two sons, Cecil 
and Clarence, one daughter in law and three grandchildren, his wife, Martha Jane 
Smith, daughter Florence and brothers and sisters had all predeceased him. 
Funeral services were held in the Powerscourt Church, of which he was an elder, 
on July 15th, service was contacted by the Rev. J. H. Woodside.

07-30-1948 Eva Emma MacMillan, beloved wife of James L. Cluff, died at 
Huntingdon Québec. Funeral Sunday, August 1st, from St. Andrew's Presbyterian 
Church, in Huntingdon Québec. The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. John 
Duncan MacMillan, and his wife, Margaret Fraser, and was born at Dundee, Québec. 
In 1918, she married James L. Cluff, and came to reside with him on the farm, 
just on the border of the town of Huntingdon, where she has resided until her 
death. Two sons were born, Robert Fraser and John W., Robert Fraser was killed 
in action in 1944, when he served during the war with the Air Force. Surviving 
is her husband, one son, John, and a sister, Miss Mabel A. MacMillan. A brother, 
William J. MacMillan predeceased her. Funeral services were held on Sunday, at 
St. Andrew's Church, Interment was in the Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery.

Hinchinbrooke Québec, in her 77th year. She was born at Huntingdon Québec, on 
November 7th, 1871, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown. On February 
27th, 1895, she was united in marriage to Robert Anderson. She leaves to mourn, 
her husband, three sons, Stanley and Nelson of the Gore, Hinchinbrooke Québec, 
Donald of Malone New York. Two daughters, Eva, Mrs. Willie Graham of the Gore, 
Hinchinbrooke Québec, Irma, Mrs. Morton Manson of Malone New York, one son, 
Russell, predeceased her six years ago. Eighteen grandchildren living, two 
grandchildren, Ruth and Melvin predeceased her four years ago. Four

and Mrs. Hugh Graham of Netherby, Huntingdon. For the past 24 years her home has 
been at Burnbrae, by the river. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian 
Church. She is survived by one brother, Mr. Arthur P. Graham of Huntingdon, a 
sister, Mrs. Arthur E. Hill of New Westminster BC, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. 
Arthur Graham and Mrs. Reginald Graham, a brother-in-law, Rev. Albert Cook of

Mabel Eva Hunter, died suddenly in Edinburgh Scotland, in his 59th year. Remains 
are resting at the Chapel of Joseph C.Wray and Bro, 1234 Mountains Street, upon 
arrival of the Empress of France, Wednesday, September 8th. Funeral service was 
held at Montreal West Presbyterian Church, Interment took place at Beauharnois 
Québec.
09-13-1948 Anna Donaldson, widow of Edgar L. Stanley, died at the war Memorial 
Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, in her 86th year. Interment and Sault 
Ste. Marie. She was the youngest daughter of the late John Donaldson and 
Christine McKellar, of Ormstown Québec, she was born in Upper Ormstown and 
educated in the local schools. She married the late E. L. Stanley, cashier in 
the Sault Savings Bank, who predeceased her 26 years ago. To them one daughter 
was born, Eunice, Mrs. Edward Shideman. Funeral services where held in Sault 
Ste. Marie on Wednesday, September 15th.
09-05-1948 Mrs. Kate Austin Douglas, wife of the late Edward W. Douglas, former 
Mayor of Ogdensburg New York, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. V.Sauer 
of Beauharnois Québec. She was the youngest daughter of the late Dr. John 
Austin, and was born December 17th, 1861. She was educated in Ogdensburg and at 
the Potsdam Normal School. She was married on September 19th, 1883, to Edward W. 
Douglas. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. M. V. Sauer of Beauharnois 
Québec, and Mrs. George A. Patterson of Orrville CA, three grandsons, George 
Douglas Sauer of Boonton NJ, Max Sauer Jr., of Montreal, and Jere Gilmour of 
Baldwin New York, a granddaughter, Katherine B. Sauer of Beauharnois, and three 
great-grandchildren, a niece, Mrs. Alice P. Roberts, and the grannies, Sister 
Julian, of the order of Ste.Anne in Arlington Heights Massachusetts. The funeral 
service was held in Ogdensburg New York, at the McLellan Funeral Parlor, service 
conducted by the Rev. Mr. Kelly.
09-09-1948 John Douglas Cooper, beloved husband of Rhoda Maither Gamble, died at 
the Huntingdon County Hospital, age 42 years and 05 months. Interred at 
Athelstan Québec. He was born on April 18th, 1906, son of William M. Cooper and 
late Elizabeth Hannah Pringle, on August 31st, 1929, and was united in marriage 
to Rhoda M. Gamble, to whom were born three daughters, Beverly, Doreen, and 
Sharon who survive him, also a sister, Margaret, Mrs. Joseph Roy of Athelstan. 
Mr. Cooper had spent all his life in Elgin Township, he was a member of the 
Elgin school board and the Maple Leaf Grange Lodge No. 11 and took an active 
part in all community affairs. Funeral services were held in the Athelstan 
Presbyterian Church, service conducted by the Rev. R. D. McLean, assisted by the 
Rev. Dr. J. D. McLean. Burial took place in the Athelstan Cemetery.
08-10-1948 John Arthur Massam, was killed in a truck accident on Highway No. 12, 
just west of the Veteran. The deceased was born in Consort Alberta, on April 27, 
1927. He was the second son of R. Ray Massam, of the Sedalia district, formerly 
of Kensington Québec. He was a veteran of the last war. Left to mourn, two 
brothers, Robert and James, sister Jean, and a large number of friends. Funeral 
service was held in St. Andrews Church in Consort, service conducted by the Rev.

10-20-1948 George James Hampson, son of James Hampson, and beloved husband of 
Nellie Sandys of Huntingdon Quebec, died suddenly at the Queen Mary Road 
Veterans Hospital, in his 64th year. Mr. Hampson was born at Huntingdon Quebec, 
on December 5th, 1884. He was the eldest son of James A. Hampson and the late 
Martha Rankin Hampson. He received his education in Huntingdon Quebec. On June 
11th, it 1915, he enlisted in the 60th battalion and served with this unit until 
the end of the war. He was honored by the King, and was awarded the military 
medal. He leaves to mourn, his widow, Eleanor J. Sandy, his age father, Mr. 
James A. Hampson, a sister, Miss Gertrude Hampson and three brothers, Edmond, 
Stanley and Arthur. Funeral to be held Friday October 22nd, at St. John's Church 
in Huntingdon Quebec. Interment was made in the Veterans plot in the Huntingdon 
Protestant Cemetery.
10-20-1948 James A. Arnold, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Burt Rennie, 
at Brooklet Quebec. The deceased was in his 92nd year, having been born in 
Dundee Quebec, on November 29, 1856. He was a son of the late James Arnold and 
his wife, Mary Miller. He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Childerhose 
of Cobden, Ontario, on December 15, 1897. Three children were born to this 
union. Mrs. Arnold predeceased him 15 years ago. He leaves to mourn, one son, J. 
Stanley Arnold at home, and two daughters, Ada, Mrs. McDougald Beattie of 
Ormstown Quebec, and Lillith, Mrs. Burt Rennie of Brooklet Quebec, also one 
sister, Mrs. H. J. Elliot of Toronto, as well as a number of nieces and nephews 
and several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 
held from his residence in Dundee Center Quebec, to the Zion United Church on 
Saturday afternoon, October 23rd, service conducted by the Rev. A. E. Hager, 
Church Pastor. Burial was made in the Zion Church Cemetery.

J. B. McLean. She was the daughter of the late George and Cornelia Busby. She

Phillipsburg Quebec. She leaves to mourn, her husband, and one son, Russell, 
daughter-in-law and two grandsons of Vancouver BC. Her aged mother, two 
brothers, Charles A., of Ormstown Quebec, Archie M. of Lethbridge Alberta, two 
sisters, Mrs. GE Learmonth of Calgary Alberta, and Mrs. R. A. MacDougall of

December the 20th, 1948, conducted by the Rev. W. T. Payne. And burial at

funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at his late Home, conducted by the 
Rev. W. H. Brown, followed immediately by a service at Trinity Church, service 
conducted by the Rev. W. G. Walch.

12-27-1948 Freda Coyers Harland, beloved wife of Wilbert James Anderson, died at 
her home, 505 Birch Avenue, St. Lambert Quebec, age 68 years. Formerly of Robin 
Hod's Bay, Yorkshire, England, and came to Canada with her mother and father at 
the age 16 years. Her father, John Harland, was principal of King's School in 
Westmont. In 1910, she was united in marriage to Wilbert J. Anderson, merchant 
at Anderson's corner's, Hinchinbrooke Québec, and in 1914, they left for St. 
Lambert to reside. She leaves to mourn, her husband, three daughters, Bessie, 
Freda and Joyce, and one son, Donald, and three grandchildren. Funeral services 
was conducted at St. Barnabas Church, in St. Lambert Quebec, service conducted 
by the Rev. C. G. Stevens. Interred in Mount Royal Cemetery.

at Paris, Ontario.

Memorial Hospital in Ormstown Québec, age 77 years. The deceased was born July 
26, 1872, son of the late Eleanor Stewart and Robert Roger. He was united in 
marriage to Mary Stuart on December 23rd, 1921, who predeceased him June 15, 
1938, he leaves to mourn, three sisters, Annie, Mrs. James Craik of Boulder CO, 
Olive, Mrs. John Taylor of Ormstown Québec, Louise, Mrs. Joe Wark of Edmonton 
AB, two sisters, Ida and Mrs. A. P. Cullen, (Florence), also one brother, Edwin, 
passed away some years ago. Funeral services were held from St. Paul's United 
Church, service conducted by his minister, the Rev. C. L. Taylor.

12-10-1948 Ethel Arthur Tuxbury Arthur, daughter of the late Rebecca Todd and 
William Arthur of Rockburn Quebec, died at Hanover NH. She was born in Rockburn 
Quebec, daughter of the late Rebecca Todd and William Arthur on August 28, 1886. 
On October 6, 1909, she married Francis Tuxbury and for the past 38 years has 
resided in Etna,N.H. besides her husband she is survived by three son's, Vernon, 
Robert and Kenneth, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the 
first Baptist Church, in Hanover NH.
12-26-1948 John Gilmore Wright, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Wright of 
Chateauguay Basin Quebec, died at St. Mary's Hospital, in his 78th year. 
Interment in St. Andrews United Cemetery in Chateauguay Quebec. He was born in 
this town, fourth son of the late William Wright and Agnes Gilmore. He is 
survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wright of Downey CA, two 
sisters-in-law, Mrs. Matthew Wright of Newport VT, and Mrs. William Wright of 
this town, also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the 
Collins Funeral Chapel in Montreal, service conducted by the Rev. B. R. 
Morrison. Burial took place in St. Andrews Church Cemetery in Chateauguay 
Québec.
(Not dated) Mrs. Barbara Crawford, died in Huntingdon Quebec. Mrs. Crawford was 
the daughter of the late Alexander Cameron and his wife, Barbara Smallman of 
Dundee Quebec. She was the widow of the late Robert Crawford of Huntingdon 
Quebec, there was one child born of this union, Wallace, who died in 1918 at the 
early age of 22 years, Mr. Crawford died in 1929. She had four brothers, Hugh of 
Dundee, James and Albert of Lowell MA, and Danielle, of Dundee, who predeceased 
her. Funeral services were held in St. Andrews Church.

John C. MacGregor and his wife, Janet Cameron. She was united in marriage to J. 
Orville Gamble on the 25th day of June, 1925. She leaves to mourn, her husband, 
her mother-in-law, Mrs. Emma Gamble, one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and 
Eileen, two granddaughters, two sisters, Mabel, Mrs. Stanley Anderson, and 
Catherine of Montreal, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Marjorie MacGregor, three 
brothers, William MacGregor of Hollywood CA, Russell MacGregor of Baxter 
Springs, Kansas, Robert MacGregor, of Vancouver BC, a brother, Archie, 
Predeceased her. Funeral services were held in Rennie's United Church, of which 
she had been a loyal and devoted member, service conducted by the Rev. Mr. 
Davis, assisted by the Rev. Dr. McLean. Interment in Hillside Cemetery,

there.
