The Gleaner, an English language newspaper, began publishing in 1863 and continues to be published today.  Robert Sellar, author of the The History of the County of Huntingdon and the Seigniories of Chateauguay & Beauharnois (1888), was the first editor of the newspaper. Sellar continued in that same position for many years and was succeeded by his son. During the newspaper's history, it had been published under different names, but has always included Gleaner in its masthead.

The extracts on these pages,  which have been so very kindly contributed by Bill Henderson,  are primarily birth, marriage, and death announcements of English speaking families in the area. Some of the information will prove invaluable to researchers. Similarly, like any transcription, researchers should use these extracts as a guide to locate official documentation to verify accuracy and correctness of information.

For anyone who would like to explore the newspaper further than these extracts, the newspaper is available on microfilm. These microfilms can be borrowed from the Library and Archives Canada through inter-library loan.
